Gary Sheffield tears ligaments in his left thumb while rounding first base. It was initially thought he would be lost for the season but he returns in September.

Jeff Brantley undergoes exploratory surgery on his shoulder to determine the cause of the issues he has been having. The procedure reveals a torn labrum and a tear in the shoulder’s posterior capsule.
He misses the remainder of the season.
