The Reds place Jeff Brantley on the DL with a shoulder injury. The defending N.L. Saves champion returns to the mound on April 18 but is shut down in May. He throws just 11 2/3 innings for the season.

Just four days after being obtained in a trade with Cleveland, Reds 1B Sean Casey is hit in the eye by a ball thrown by Damian Jackson during batting practice.
His eye orbit is fractured and will require surgery on April 8th. The injury keeps him out of the Reds lineup until May 5. He plays in just 96 games.
