Happy 1990s Birthday to eight-time All-Star Lance Parrish, who earned his final All-Star nod and won a Silver Slugger with the Angels in 1990. He played until 1995 and finished with 324 homers, three Gold Gloves, six Silver Sluggers, and a ring.

He had a pinch-hit single off Pat COmbs in his only at-bat.
Happy 1990s Birthday to Ramiro Mendoza, who won 59 games for the Yankees and Red Sox between 1996 and 2005.
He played in the bigs for 10 years and won three rings. Not too shabby.
He is one of four players since 1923 who won a ring with both the Yankees and Red SOx. Theo others are Johnny Damon, Kevin Cash, and Eric Hinske.

The Marlins trade Craig Counsell to the Dodgers for a PTBNL.
Counsell hits .259 in 50 games for the Dodgers and signs with the Diamondbacks for 2000.

Jeff King becomes the 5th player in history to be caught stealing twice in the same inning.
He was was ruled safe on a SB attempt due to interference (officially a caught stealing) and was then thrown out trying to steal third.

Bob Melvin goes 5-for-5 with a homer and 2 RBI in an 8-4 Orioles win over Toronto.
Bob had 57 hits all season and five of them came in this game

Seattle had just three extra-base hits in the game but Detoirt walks 14 and allows 10 hits.

He stays above .400 until July 5th and finishes the season batting .363.

He hits .298 in June with 20 homers.

Todd Helton homers and drives in four as the Rockies beat the Giants 15-6.
Helton is one of five Colorado hitters to drive in at least two runs.

The Mariners return Rule V draftee Fernando Vina to the Mets.
Vina hit .222 in 24 games for Seattle. He returns to the bigs in 1994 with the Mets.

The Phillies place Mickey Morandini on the DL with a shoulder injury, the result of a collision with teammate Glenn Murray.
He returns to the lieup on June 30th.

Ken Hill undergoes arthroscopic surgery on his elbow to remove bone chips and spurs.
He returns to the mound on August 29th.
