Happy 1990s Birthday to Esteban Yan, who pitched in the bigs for 11 years and won 33 games while saving 51.
He was also 2-for-69 at the plate but 50% of his hits were homers.

Happy 1990s Birthday to Greg Booker, who debuted with the Padres in 1983 and pitched until 1990, finishing up with the Giants. He also has the distinction of being traded by his father-in-law. Trader Jack McKeon, dealt Booker to the Twins in 1989.

Happy 1990s Birthday to Jim Hunter, who was drafted four times and appeared in 8 games for the Brewers in 1991. He later taught computer programming in high school.

Happy 1990s Birthday to Jorge Brito, who played 26 games for the Rockies in 1995 and 1996 and later became an agent.

Happy 1990s Birthday to Brant Brown, who debuted with the Cubs in 1996 and spent five years in the bigs. Some may remember his big error on September 23, 1998, but his gaffe ultimately didn’t cost the Cubs a shot at the playoffs and he helped get to where they were that season, batting .291 with 14 homers.

Happy 1990s Birthday to Brian Sackinsky, who was a 2nd round draft pick out of Stanford and pitched in three games for the Orioles in 1996.

Happy 1990s Birthday to Miguel Del Toro, who pitched in Mexico for six years before getting a shot out of the Giants’ bullpen in 1999. He went 2-0 in 23 games over two seasons.

The Rangers send Bobby Witt to the Cardinals in exchange for a player to be named and cash.
Witt goes 2-5 in 14 games for St. Louis and signs with Tampa Bay for 1999.

The Orioles sign Rick Dempsey as a free agent. He replaces Chris Holies, who suffered a broken wrist when he was hit by a pitch.
He plays 8 more games in a Baltimore uniform and he’s done.
The man had a good career.

Tony Menendez allows one run in 2 2/3 IP against Houston in his big-league debut.
He goes 1-0 as a rookie and appears in 23 games over parts of three seasons in the bigs.

Glenn Dishman allows three runs over five innings against the Rockies in his big-league debut.
He goes 4-8 as a rookie and 5-10 over 33 games for his career.

Al Levine allows one run in an inning of work against Seattle in his big-league debut.
Levine pitches until 2005, winning 24 games and recording 10 saves.

Gabe Alvarez goes 1-for-4 in his big league debut with a single off Todd Stottlemyre in his first plate appearance.
He spends parts three seasons in the bigs with the Tigers and Padres.

Calvin Murray goes 0-for-1 as a pinch-hitter against Milwaukee in his big-league debut.
He plays in just 15 games in 1999, but becomes a regular in 2000 and plays through the 2004 season.

An interesting day for Dave Cochrane, who ties a Seattle record for most assists by an outfielder in a game with two, and also sets a team mark for most errors in a game with three.
Oakland wins the game 7-2. He also doubles and grounds into a double play.

Two acoustic panels fall from the roof of the Toronto SkyDome, injuring seven fans during the 7th inning of the Brewers’ 7-0 win over the Blue Jays.

Reds hitting coach Ken Griffey walks out before batting practice for what the team called “personal reasons.”
Witnesses said Griffey launched into a “profanity-laced tirade” before storming out.
He returns to the team the following day after a series of meetings with GM Jim Bowden, manager Jack McKeon and the coaching staff.

Mickey Tettleton becomes the 17th player to hit a ball out of Tiger Stadium but the Tigers lost 10-3 to the Angels.

Dave Winfield homers and drives in five to lead a 20-hit Toronto attack as the Jays beat Texas 16-7.

Roberto Kelly homers and drives in 5 as Cincinnati wins a wild one at Coors, a 16-13 final.
Kevin Mitchell drives in four for Cincinnati and Chris Jones homers twice for Colorado.

Carlton Fisk surpasses Bob Boone catching his 2,226th game to become the all-time leader.

The Reds get 8th-inning pinch-hit homers from Eric Anthony and Eddie Taubensee to beat the Braves, 9-8.
It is just the second time since 1975 that an N.L. team gets two pinch-hit dingers in the same inning.

In just his 8th game as a big-leaguer, Brant Brown goes 5-for-9 in a 9-6 16-inning Cubs win over the Padres.
The game was tied 4-4 after 9 innings and both teams scored single runs in the 12th and 15th inning before the Cubbies scored 3 in the top of the 16th.

Ruben Sierra homers from both sides of the plate as the Yankees beat the Indians, 11-9.
One of Sierra’s home runs comes in the nine-run 6th inning.

Mark Smith’s two-run homer is the third of the 9th inning for the Orioles and propels Baltimore to a 5-3 win over the Royals.

Chipper Jones, Fred McGriff, Michael Tucker and Jeff Blauser all homer in a nine-run 3rd inning as the Braves beat the Phillies 12-5. It is Atlanta’s biggest inning since 1989.

Mark Kotsay goes 5-for-6 in a 3-2 Marlins win over the Rays.
It is the first of three 5-hit games for Kotsay during his career.

Pokey Reese goes 5-for-6 with a double, triple, RBI, SB and 3 RBI in an 8-7 Reds win over the Diamondbacks.
He has another 5-hit game a year later.

The Cubs overcome an eight-run deficit to trip the Rockies, 13 – 12. Henry Rodriguez’s 8th-inning single drive in Mark Grace to cap the comeback. Rodriguez also hit a three-run homer.
It was a tough day for Darryl Kile, who coughs up for homers in the loss.

Mike Piazza goes 1-for-4 in an 8-2 Mets win over the Marlins to extend his hitting streak to 24 games, tying the team record set by Hubie Brooks in 1984.
The streak is snapped the following day but Piazza hits .353 (36-for-102) during the streak and raises his batting average by 24 points.

The Twins release Jim Dwyer and recall a young slugger named Paul Sorrento from Triple-A Portland.
Dwyer’s career is over after 18 seasons. He finishes with 719 hits and a ring.

2/22/93
Mets GM and CEO Al Harazin resigns. The Mets got off to a slow start and replaced manager Jeff Torborg with Dallas Green in May to no avail. They finish 1992 with 103 losses.

Shawn Boskie comes up and in on Bobby Bo, who isn’t having it.
Bonilla earns a two-game suspension.

The Braves fire Russ Nixon after a 25-40 start and replace him with Bobby Cox.
It is Nixon’s final managerial job.
Cox leads Atlanta to 14 division titles and a World Series championship over the next 21 seasons.
