Happy 1990s Birthday to Marty Barrett, who debuted with the Red Sox in 1982 and wrapped up his career with the Padres in 1991. He also scored the winning run in the 1981 31-inning minor league game between Pawtucket and Rochester. He later coached and managed in the minor leagues.

Happy 1990s Birthday to Jim Deshaies, who pitched in the bigs from 1984 through 1995. winning 84 games. He holds the record for the most career at-bats (373) without an extra-base hit.

Happy 1990s Birthday to Chris Beasley, who pitched in 22 games for the Angels in 1991.

Happy 1990s Birthday to Mike Walker, who pitched in 5 games for the 1992 Mariners.

Happy 1990s Birthday to Hensley Meulens, who was a big power-hitting prospect in the minor leagues, but had trouble translating that to the bigs. Still, he spent parts of seven seasons in the bigs and later became a hitting coach.

Happy 1990s Birthday to Juan Castillo, who pitched in 2 games for the Mets in 1994.

The team reaches the World Series, falling to Toronto in six games.

The White Sox DFA Joe Magrane and his career is over.
Magrane finished 2nd in the 1987 ROY race for the Cardinals and won 18 games in 1989, but elbow problems scuttled his career.

West Palm Beach Expo Steve Gill’s hard slide into Charlotte Rangers catcher Daryl Kennedy at home plate triggers a bench-clearing brawl during a Class A Florida State League game. The fight results in a record $4,425 in fines and 44 suspensions. With both benches and bullpens emptying, the only players who escape without fines or suspensions are either in the clubhouse or not at the game. Suspensions were staggered so no more than two players and a pitcher on each time are suspended at any time. Charlotte wins the game 3-1.

The Phillies place Lenny Dykstra on the DL after he undergoes an emergency appendectomy. He misses 5 weeks.

Cleveland places Orel Hershiser on the DL with a lower back sprain.
He returns to the rotation on July 9th.

Cal Eldred undergoes a three-hour elbow surgery to repair ligament damage.
He returns to the mound in July of 1996.
