Happy 1990s Birthday to Kevin Bass, who made his debut with the Brewers in 1982 and was traded to Houston for Don Sutton.
He became a regular with the Astros and put up solid numbers for the next decade. He wrapped up his career with Baltimore in 1995.

Happy 1990s Birthday to Rafael Bournigal, who spent seven years in the bigs with the Dodgers, A’s, and Mariners and later became a scout.

Happy 1990s Birthday to Kenny Greer, who appeared in nine games for the Mets and Giants and earned one big-league win.

Happy 1990s Birthday to Mark Clark, who won 74 games over ten seasons in the bigs with five teams.
He grew up a big Cardinals fan and he cried when they traded Bake McBride to the Phillies in 1977.

Happy 1990s Birthday to Wes Helms, who made his debut with the Braves in 1998 and spent 13 years in the bigs with four teams.
His uncle, Tommy, spent 14 years in the bigs and won Rookie of the Year in 1966.

Happy 1990s Birthday to Travis “Gookie” Dawkins, who played in 55 games over four seasons for the Reds and Royals and later became a minor league hitting coach and manager.

The White Sox sign John Kruk as a free agent.
He makes his Sox debut on May 24 and retires mid-game on July 30th after getting a single to raise his lifetime batting average to an even .300.

The Brewers sign Ricky Bones to a minor-league deal.
Bones became a free agent after refusing a minor-league rehab assignment with the Reds.

The Astros sign Pete Incaviglia as a free agent and send him to Triple-A New Orleans.
Inky had been released by Detroit in April. He returns to the bigs in August and finishes his career with the Astros.

Chris Carpenter gets knocked around a bit by the Twins in his big league debut, allowing 7 runs (5 earned) in three innings.
He goes 49-50 in six seasons in Toronto and is released but signs with St. Louis and goes 95-44 over the next nine seasons.

An interesting day for Jerry Goff.
He ties the major league record for passed balls in a game with six, but also homers off Ugeth Urbina in a 7-6 loss.
It is his final major league appearance.

Tom Browning takes a no-no into the 7th inning and winds up losing the game 4-2 to the Cubs.
Shawon Dunston breaks up the no-hit bid with a leadoff single in the 7th and the Cubs score four runs in the inning.

Kevin Gross shuts out the Expos 2-0 on three hits and strikes out 13.

Cecil Fielder homers twice off Pat Hentgen and drives in five as the Tigers beat Toronto 13-8.
Hentgen allows four homers in three innings of work.

Otis Nixon goes 2-for-5 with four stolen bases in a 5-2 Braves win over the Astros. Pedro Martinez strikes out 15 in eight innings of work and the Red Sox beat Seattle 9-2.
It’s the second-straight start in which Pedro has struck out 15.

Vinny Castilla goes 4-for-5 with two homers and six RBI in a 10-6 Rockies win over the Marlins.
It was the start of a five-year span in which Vinny hit 191 homers and drove in 562.

Will Clark goes 0-for-4 and does not reach base in a 5-3 loss to the Tigers.
It is the first time all season he hasn’t reached base via a hit or walk.

Mike Grace shuts out the Braves and retires the final 17 batters he faces to run his record to 6-0 with a 2.34 E.R.A.
Unfortunately for Grace and the Phillies, he is injured in June and misses the rest of the season.

Mark Grudzelanik goes 5-for-5 out of the leadoff slot as the Expos beat Houston 7-6.
It his his second 5-hit game of the season and one of four in his career.

The White Sox lead the Angels 6-2 heading into the 7th when Anaheim scores 13 in the bottom of the inning.
Gary Disarcina, Darrin Erstad, Jim Edmonds, Dave Hollins, Jim Leyritz, and Tim Salmon all reach base twice in the inning and the Angels win 18-6.
Chicago uses five pitchers in the inning.

Pedro Martinez strikes out 15 in eight innings of work and the Red Sox beat Seattle 9-2.
It’s the second straight start in which Pedro has struck out 15.

Chuck Finley strikes out four Yankees hitters in the bottom of the 3rd inning. He did it again in August and again in 2000.

The Tigers release Mel Rojas.
He returns to Montreal, appears in one game, and his big-league career is over, though he pitches in the minors and in Mexico and China until 2004.

He returns to te lineup on June 4th.

He returns on June 2nd and keeps hitting.

Dick Schofield breaks his arm in a collision with Milt Cuyler.
The injury keeps him out of action until September.

The Reds place Benito Santiago on the DL with an injured right elbow.
He does not return to the lineup until July 4th and goes 3-for-5 after missing nearly two months.

The Rangers place Roger Pavlik on the DL with a bone chip in his elbow.
The injury costs him four months.

Jeff Bagwell cuts his knee following a home plate collision with Florida’s Charles Johnson.
Bagwell stays in the game, but the wound ends up requiring 15 stitches to close and Bagwell misses 16 games.
